A total of 774 former members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rimin Gado Local Government Area of Kano State.
The defectors were formally received on Friday by Alhaji Rabiu Bichi, Managing Director of the Hadejia-Jam’are River Basin Development Authority, who hailed their decision as timely and beneficial.
Bichi described the new entrants as “lucky,” insisting they had made the right political choice by joining what he called the only party capable of ensuring Nigeria’s sustainable development. He highlighted several key achievements of the APC-led administration under President Bola Tinubu, especially in Northern Nigeria.
According to him, over 18 major federal projects—valued in billions of Naira—have already been completed in Kano State alone. He added that the Federal Government had been releasing significant development funds to states, but lamented that some state governments were allegedly diverting the funds to unrelated sectors.
Bichi noted that the Renewed Hope Agenda was delivering tangible gains, including economic recovery and improved food security through enhanced agricultural programmes.
He assured the defectors that they would be fully integrated into the APC structure and treated as long-standing party members.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Mohammad Karofin-Yashi said they joined the APC in recognition of the administration’s impressive development strides at both state and national levels. He expressed confidence that the APC would lead Kano and Nigeria to greater progress.
Karofin-Yashi also pledged to mobilise additional NNPP supporters who, he said, were ready to cross over to the ruling party soon.
