ADC Accuses APC Of Forcing Membership
Across Nigeria, concerns are growing after the African Democratic Congress accused the ruling party of forcing civil servants to sign up to its electronic membership drive.
The opposition party said reports from several states point to public workers being pushed to join the All Progressives Congress as a condition tied to their jobs and livelihoods.
The allegation was raised by the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, who said the complaints suggest a coordinated effort linked to the APC’s leadership.
According to the party, many workers are allegedly being made to choose between their constitutional rights and job security, a situation it described as unacceptable in a democratic system.
The ADC warned that freedom of thought, conscience, and association are inalienable rights, not privileges to be dispensed by any ruling party.
It added that what is presented as party e-registration is increasingly being driven by pressure and fear, turning political participation into what it called “state-sponsored conscription” rather than voluntary support.
The party also cautioned that such actions could damage the neutrality of the civil service and weaken public trust.
