ADC Demands Tinubu Return From UK
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to cut short his trip to the United Kingdom and return to Nigeria following deadly bomb attacks in Maiduguri, Borno State, which left 23 people dead and many injured.
The party criticised what it described as a lack of leadership focus at a critical moment for national security.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC expressed sympathy for the victims and praised first responders and security personnel for their efforts to help the injured and restore order.
The party also highlighted concerns about the overall state of security in the country, warning that Maiduguri should not return to a period of repeated terror attacks.
The ADC accused the federal government of prioritising political matters over the protection of lives, pointing to the President’s overseas trip, the Minister of Defence’s focus on the APC convention, and the National Security Adviser’s engagement with opposition issues.
The party described these distractions as costing lives and undermining the government’s primary duty to safeguard citizens.
The party demanded immediate action from Tinubu, calling for the return of the President to personally address the crisis and take responsibility.
It further urged the government to begin compensating families of victims, arguing that acknowledging responsibility is part of ensuring meaningful protection and accountability for citizens.
