Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has confirmed that he will formally join the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday, November 19.
Speaking to journalists on Saturday, the governor said he is leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling party, describing the move as one tied to “the destiny of Taraba people.” He also hinted that a large crowd is expected at the defection ceremony.
“There will be a major shift and alignment on November 19,” he said. “I will officially move from PDP to APC. It is a movement connected to the destiny of the Taraba people.”
Kefas is the latest PDP governor to switch to the APC in 2025. Others who have defected this year include Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Peter Mbah (Enugu), and Douye Diri (Bayelsa).
Elected in 2023 with 257,926 votes, Kefas defeated Muhammad Yahaya of the NNPP and Emmanuel Bwacha of the APC. His defection marks a major shift, as Taraba State has been governed exclusively by the PDP since 1999.
