APC Fires Back at Iyabo Obasanjo On Yayi Comment
A leading member of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, Akeem Akilo, has criticised former Ogun Central senator Iyabo Obasanjo for calling Senator Olamilekan Adeola, known as Yayi, an opportunist.
The remarks followed a recent radio interview where Obasanjo questioned Adeola’s political path.
Akilo described her comments as misplaced and lacking depth, arguing that it was surprising for someone who had been away from frontline politics since losing her re-election bid in 2011 to now question another politician’s consistency.
He said Ogun Central’s political space had changed over the years, with new figures emerging.
He defended Adeola’s record, pointing to his movement from the Lagos State House of Assembly to the House of Representatives, then two Senate terms for Lagos West, and now representing Ogun West.
According to him, these victories show voter trust and growth, not political opportunism.
Akilo added that Adeola’s roots in Ogun, particularly in Yewaland, predate his recent election, noting that his 2023 win was earned at the polls.
He also questioned Obasanjo’s motive, especially as she recently registered with the APC in Ifo and declared interest in the 2027 governorship race.
