APC Picks New State Leaders Nationwide
The All Progressives Congress on Tuesday swore in new state and local government executives across the country after largely adopting consensus voting at its congresses.
The party’s national leadership directed that all elected officials be inaugurated immediately in line with its constitution.
Ward and local government congresses were earlier held in February, with most states concluding theirs this week.
While a few disputes led some members to court, the national secretariat insisted that those elected must assume office without delay.
In Lagos, Oyo, Kwara and several other states, chairmen emerged through consensus, mixing returning officers with new entrants.
Governors and party leaders attended the events, urging unity and preparation for future elections, especially ahead of 2027.
However, tension resurfaced in Benue where rival factions loyal to Governor Hyacinth Alia and SGF George Akume held separate congresses and produced parallel executives.
Despite this, the party maintained that the nationwide exercise was peaceful in most states.
