The All Progressives Congress (APC) has pulled off a surprise victory over the Labour Party (LP) in the polling unit of former presidential candidate Peter Obi, as results continue to emerge from Amatutu village in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.
At Polling Unit 019, Umudimakasi — where Obi personally voted — the APC secured 73 votes to defeat the Labour Party, which garnered 57. The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) came third with 38 votes, while minor parties such as YPP, ZLP, APM, ADC, and AAC recorded one vote each.
The result has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians shocked that Obi lost in his own polling unit despite his popularity in Agulu and the larger Anaocha area, where he has historically enjoyed strong grassroots support.
Adding an interesting twist, APC’s governorship running mate, Senator Uche Ekwunife, also hails from the same community, which may have contributed to the ruling party’s performance.
At Polling Unit 015, located at Amatutu Village Hall, APC extended its dominance with 117 votes, while APGA and LP trailed far behind with 29 and 10 votes respectively. Similarly, at Polling Unit 023, Model Primary Health Care Centre, APC continued its lead with 25 votes, followed by APGA with 8 and LP with 7, while YPP and ADC had one vote each.
With APC maintaining a steady lead across these units, analysts believe the party may be gaining a foothold in Anaocha — an area long regarded as a strong base for APGA and, more recently, the Labour Party.
Collation of results is still ongoing across the local government area and the state.
