Army Clarifies Katsina Soldier Death
The Nigerian Army has clarified the circumstances surrounding the death of Corporal Ude Jude under the 17 Brigade in Katsina State.
The update followed widespread reports circulating online, which the military described as misleading and inaccurate.
According to the brigade, the soldier was not a lieutenant but a corporal who sustained injuries outside the barracks while deployed at a forward base in Funtua.
The incident, it said, happened on February 16 when he left his duty post and became involved in a physical confrontation with a civilian.
He was treated and monitored at the brigade’s medical facility after suffering stab wounds and related injuries.
Despite weeks of care, he later collapsed on March 24 and was confirmed dead on arrival after being rushed back to the hospital.
The army said support was provided to his family and burial arrangements handled according to standard procedures.
It added that efforts are ongoing to track those responsible, while urging the public to rely on verified information.
