Atiku Laments On His Involvement In Jonathan Removal
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said Nigeria is now facing deeper troubles than the period that led opposition leaders to unite against former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.
He spoke on Thursday while addressing opposition members, recalling how politicians set aside their differences in 2014 to form the All Progressives Congress ahead of the general election.
He explained that the alliance was built on complaints of weak governance and rising insecurity at the time.
According to him, those same problems have not only remained but have grown worse under the current administration.
He said the security challenges confronting the country today are more severe than what pushed them to act over a decade ago.
His remarks come as critics continue to speak about violence, kidnappings and economic hardship across many regions.
The APC, formed through a merger of opposition parties, went on to defeat the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party in 2015, marking the first time an incumbent president lost re election in Nigeria.
President Bola Tinubu had also admitted in November 2025 that insecurity remains the country’s biggest challenge, especially in the North.
Speaking in Kaduna through the Speaker of the House of Representatives at the 25th anniversary of the Arewa Consultative Forum, he said peace is vital for progress and that his government is working to tackle armed groups while pushing ahead with oil exploration and key road projects in the region.
