Atiku Warns Of Terror Resurgence After Bombing
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the recent bombings in Maiduguri, warning that a return of terrorism could weaken public trust in government and calling for an urgent review of security strategies.
In a statement, Atiku said the attacks, which left at least 23 people dead and over 100 injured, show a worrying comeback of violence once thought to have been reduced.
He noted that the situation risks shaking confidence in the government’s ability to protect citizens.
He compared the current trend to the peak of insurgency linked to Boko Haram around 2014, raising concerns about increasing attacks on both civilians and security personnel.
While acknowledging the efforts of the military, he urged the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to rethink its approach to tackling insecurity.
He alleged that too much attention is being given to political matters ahead of 2027 instead of addressing security challenges.
He also highlighted the human cost of the attacks, urging leaders to focus on protecting lives and restoring confidence across affected communities.
