Benue Seeks Approval On New Security Plan
The Benue State Government is seeking approval from the Federal Government to set up a Disarmament, Demobilisation, and Reintegration centre for repentant local bandits in the state.
The proposal is part of fresh steps to tackle insecurity and encourage fighters to lay down their arms.
The plan is aimed at creating a formal process where those who surrender can be disarmed, rehabilitated and prepared to return to society.
State officials believe the centre will help reduce violence in affected communities.
Under the arrangement, individuals who renounce criminal activities would undergo screening, counselling and skills training before reintegration.
The government says the approach could open a path for lasting peace if properly managed.
Authorities are now awaiting federal clearance, as the programme would require coordination with national security agencies and support from Abuja.
