Troops from Operation Hadin Kai have captured a suspected suicide bomber and confiscated materials intended for making Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Borno State.
The suspect, identified as Abubakar Mustapha, was arrested on Monday, December 29, by personnel of the 152 Task Force Battalion working alongside other security agencies in Bama Local Government Area.
Lt Col Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, Northeast Operation Hadin Kai, confirmed the arrest on Tuesday. Mustapha was found at the Banki Central Mosque with primed IED components, indicating a possible imminent attack.
Investigations revealed that Mustapha is from Bama LGA and had additional items linked to terrorist activities. He is currently being interrogated to uncover his backers, accomplices, and potential ties to terrorist networks in the region.
Lt Col Uba assured that troops continue to carry out intensive patrols, intelligence-led operations, and maintain a robust presence to prevent attacks on civilians and key infrastructure. He also called on the public to provide credible intelligence to support ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
The military reaffirmed its dedication to protecting lives and property across the North East, stressing that troop morale and operational effectiveness remain strong.
This arrest comes days after a suicide bombing at Al-Adum Jumaat Mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, on December 24, which left five worshippers dead and 35 others injured during evening prayers.
