The Katsina State Government has directed the immediate shutdown of all public schools across the state due to rising security concerns and recent bandit attacks affecting several communities.
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Yusuf Sulaiman Jibia, confirmed the development on Friday during a briefing with journalists in Katsina.
He explained that the decision was taken to protect students and teachers as security agencies begin implementing a new statewide safety strategy for schools.
Jibia acknowledged that students are currently sitting for examinations but stressed that the protection of lives and property is the government’s overriding priority.
He described the closure as a temporary measure that will remain in force until a detailed security review of vulnerable areas is completed.
Findings revealed that the move follows the recent abductions of secondary school students in Kebbi and Niger States, developments that have raised fear among parents and authorities across the North-West.
Jibia added that the government would allow schools to resume only after full security assessments are concluded and adequate safety measures are put in place.
