CBN Cracks Down On Money Bouquets
The Nigerian government has warned against the use of banknotes for decorative purposes ahead of the 2026 Valentine season.
The Central Bank of Nigeria said turning naira notes into flower bouquets, money towers or cakes amounts to currency abuse and is against the law.
The directive comes as the Valentine period often sees a rise in the display of cash in creative designs at parties and events.
Authorities say such acts damage the integrity of the national currency and violate regulations guiding its use.
The apex bank reminded the public that the naira is legal tender meant for transactions, not for display or decoration.
Offenders risk penalties under existing laws that prohibit spraying, mutilating or mishandling banknotes.
The CBN urged Nigerians to celebrate responsibly and avoid practices that could attract sanctions, stressing that respect for the currency remains a civic duty.
