Chaos As Tinubu’s Owerri Rally Turns Violent
A rally organised by supporters of President Bola Tinubu in Owerri, Imo State, ended in chaos on Saturday after angry residents disrupted the event and carted away items meant for distribution.
The gathering was organised by the City Boy Movement, a political support group mobilising backing for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Witnesses said the rally initially attracted a large crowd before the situation became rowdy, with little crowd control at the venue.
Videos circulating online showed people running in different directions as confusion spread across the rally ground.
Several individuals were also seen carrying away empowerment items brought for distribution during the programme.
Items reportedly taken included sewing machines, refrigerators and other materials meant for beneficiaries.
The situation turned disorderly within minutes as people struggled to leave the venue while others grabbed the items.
As of the time of the report, organisers of the rally and security agencies in Imo State had not issued an official statement, and it remained unclear whether anyone was injured during the incident.
