Charlie Kirk, conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, was shot on Wednesday during a public event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
The incident happened around noon while Kirk was hosting a stop on his American Comeback Tour. Reports say he was shot from about 200 yards away by a gunman firing from a nearby building. Video from the scene showed Kirk being struck in the neck before being rushed to the hospital, where he is in critical condition.
Authorities initially detained a person of interest, but later confirmed that the shooter is still at large. The FBI and ATF have joined the investigation.
Political figures across the spectrum, including President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance, condemned the attack and offered prayers for Kirk’s recovery. The shooting has sparked renewed concerns over politically motivated violence in the United States.
