Civil Groups Condemns “Accidental Strike” In Market
Civil society groups have raised alarm after a military airstrike hit a busy market along the Borno–Yobe border, leaving dozens feared dead and many injured.
The incident, which happened during an operation targeting insurgents, has drawn strong reactions from rights advocates across Nigeria.
Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre and Transparency International described the development as deeply troubling, noting that such strikes have repeatedly harmed civilians.
They warned that the pattern risks eroding trust in security operations in conflict zones.
The groups said flaws in intelligence gathering and rushed operations often lead to mistakes, especially in areas where civilians and insurgents mix.
They called for a full investigation into the strike, urging authorities to uncover what went wrong and hold those responsible accountable.
They also pushed for reforms, including better surveillance, stricter targeting checks and stronger civilian protection measures.
Support for victims, including compensation and care, was also demanded as pressure grows on the government to prevent a repeat of such incidents.
