Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has received the traditional title of Okanlomo of Yorubaland following a ceremonial installation in Oyo Town.
The honour was conferred on Sunday, December 21, 2025, by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, during a colourful event held at the Alaafin’s Palace.
Reacting to the development, the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, described the title as a recognition of Tinubu’s growing influence, particularly among young people, as well as his involvement in philanthropic activities.
Ogundoyin said the installation carries responsibilities beyond tradition, noting that it reflects trust in Tinubu’s capacity to contribute meaningfully to leadership and service within Yorubaland.
“This is not just a traditional title; it is a call to service and a recognition of leadership potential,” he stated, adding that the honour embodies Yoruba values such as excellence, community service and legacy.
The Speaker also commended the Alaafin for his role in preserving Yoruba culture and reinforcing the relevance of traditional institutions through the conferment of titles on individuals he described as worthy representatives of the heritage.
He urged Seyi Tinubu to embrace the responsibility attached to the title by promoting unity, strengthening cultural pride, empowering youths and advancing sustainable development across Yorubaland.
