Lazio head coach Maurizio Sarri has successfully undergone heart surgery after being diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, the club announced.
The 66-year-old had a catheter ablation procedure in Rome on Monday to treat the condition, which causes an irregular heartbeat and can increase the risk of stroke.
Sarri is expected to return to his coaching duties in the coming days, with assistant coach Marco Ianni leading training in his absence.
Lazio confirmed that the operation, performed by Professor Andrea Natale and attended by club doctor Italo Leo, was “carried out with a positive outcome.”
Sarri, who previously managed Lazio from March 2021 to June 2024, returned to the club for a second stint in June and may be back on the touchline when the Biancocelesti host Napoli at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.
