The Delta State Police Command has taken action against the Divisional Police Officer of the GRA Division in Asaba following allegations of intimidation and extortion against a man who tried to assist a dying stranger.

According to Tomi Wojuola, he rushed a collapsed man to the hospital, but the victim died upon arrival. When Wojuola sought police assistance, he was allegedly detained at the GRA Police Station.

“In a shocking display of misconduct, I was accused of murder and my statement taken under caution,” Wojuola wrote. He claimed CSP Joseph Udoh, the DPO, told him he was being punished for acting like “Jesus,” warning that after the ordeal, he might hesitate to help anyone in distress. Wojuola also alleged that his account was largely emptied to pay bail, leaving him with just N2,000, and that he was released only after intervention from a senior government official.

Updating the situation, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer SP Edafe Bright confirmed that the DPO had been removed and sanctioned, and Wojuola’s bail money refunded. “The man has been contacted, the DPO removed and sanctioned, and the money refunded,” he said.

Wojuola also confirmed the resolution on Facebook, posting: “DPO removed and sanctioned. Money refunded. Thanks all, Naija go better one day!”
