Super Eagles striker Akor Adams revealed that he dedicated his goal against Mozambique to his mother, who was hospitalised ahead of Nigeria’s 4–0 win in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations round-of-16 match on Monday, PUNCH Online reports.
Adams opened his tournament scoring in the 70th minute, rounding off a dominant performance for Nigeria. He also assisted Ademola Lookman’s opener and played a key part in Victor Osimhen’s second goal.
Speaking in the mixed zone after the match, the 25-year-old said the goal was for his mother, who had planned to attend the game. “Glory to God for scoring my first AFCON goal, like many of you have been waiting for. But the goal is dedicated to my mum,” Adams said.
“She was supposed to be here, but she was admitted to the hospital this morning. Thankfully, she’s feeling much better now.”
The goal brings Adams’ record for Nigeria to three goals and three assists in eight matches. He made his Super Eagles debut in October 2025 during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, marking it with a goal in the 2–1 victory over Lesotho.
