A$AP Rocky has opened up about how his mother always encouraged him to be with Rihanna, even urging him to leave his then-girlfriend.
In an interview with The New York Times, Rocky said his mother would often tell him, “I want you with Riri,” though he initially considered Rihanna just a friend. He now acknowledges that his mother’s instincts were spot on.
“Rihanna has always been my boo. I always f*cked with her. My mother used to say, ‘I know you like this girl that you are with right now, but I want you with Riri,’” Rocky said.
He added, “And I would tell her that Rihanna is just a friend. But my mother insisted that Rihanna is a real one and that I should go for her. I’m telling you, mothers know best. However, I am thankful that my relationship with Rihanna started when it did. Because at any time prior to that, I don’t think I was ready for something like that. I don’t think she was, either.”
Rocky and Rihanna first grew close during her 2013 Diamond Tour. Rumors of their romance surfaced in 2020 after Rihanna split from Hassan Jameel. The couple has since welcomed three children together, born in 2022, 2023, and 2025.
