Dominic Nwuzor, the former manager of late Nollywood comedian John Okafor, popularly known as ‘Mr Ibu,’ has called on the Enugu State government to provide scholarships for the actor’s children.
Nwuzor, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Abuja, managed Mr Ibu for over 20 years before his passing in March 2024. He urged the state government to include the children, who hail from Nkanu West, in its educational support programs to secure their future.
“We have been pushing for scholarship opportunities for his children and will continue to do so to ensure something meaningful is done,” Nwuzor said.
He added, “Governor Peter Mbah is known for his commitment to education, particularly for vulnerable groups. We hope he will consider helping the children of a man whose talent brought pride to Enugu State and entertained audiences across Africa.”
Mr Ibu is celebrated as one of Nigeria’s most iconic comic actors, renowned for his expressive facial gestures, impeccable timing, and ability to play clumsy or foolish characters. His roles in the ‘Mr Ibu’ movie series earned him the nickname “The Man Who Made Africa Laugh,” a testament to his enduring popularity across the continent.
