The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 65-year-old man, Engr. Chibuike Azubike, who allegedly posed as the “Obi of Lagos,” along with three accomplices, preventing a planned unveiling of his supposed palace.

Azubike, an indigene of Obodoukwu Ancient Kingdom in Ideato North LGA, Imo State, was apprehended alongside Chief Chibuzor Ani, 57; Chief Martins Nwaodika, 65; and Mr. Ikechukwu Franklin Nnadi, 41.

According to a Lagos Police statement, intelligence reports revealed that the group had planned to unveil a ₦1.5 billion “Palace of Obi of Lagos State” on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Apple Hall, Amuwo Odofin. Acting on the tip-off, police sealed off the venue to stop the event from taking place.

The operation involved conventional police officers, members of the Eko Strike Force, and other tactical units to maintain public order and prevent any breach of peace.

“The suspects are currently in detention, and investigations into their activities are ongoing. The results of the investigation will be made public, and they will be charged to court accordingly,” the statement read.

CP Olohundare Jimoh, Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, warned the public to remain vigilant against impostors who exploit cultural and traditional institutions for personal gain. He emphasized that such acts are illegal, violate Lagos State laws, and have the potential to disrupt societal peace.
