World champion and women’s 100m hurdles record holder Tobi Amusan has called out the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) over the poor quality of kits provided to athletes ahead of the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

In a video shared on Snapchat, Amusan expressed frustration, comparing Nigeria’s preparations to other countries.

“Oh, Nigeria. All the other countries, they give their athletes suitcases. See what Nigeria packed for athletes. Every year, na so we dey collect am — one small, little bag. Which company is this? Iresa? This country is very embarrassing. Na say make person no switch allegiance. Una never ready,” she said.

Amusan revealed that she would have to compete wearing her own Adidas black tights because of the inadequate gear provided. She also complained that officials mishandled her shoe size despite collecting it in advance.

“I go show you guys wetin Jamaica collect. And when I tell you say Jamaica dey the same WhatsApp group with Nigeria, but dem no worse like this, you go believe,” she added, vowing to show fans a comparison of what other countries give their athletes.

Her outburst has reignited criticism of the AFN’s handling of athlete welfare and raised concerns about Nigeria’s preparedness for the world championship.
