Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan secured the silver medal in the women’s 100m hurdles at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on Monday, clocking 12.29 seconds in a highly competitive final.

The world record holder ran a strong and consistent race but finished behind Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, who claimed gold with a national record of 12.24 seconds.

Grace Stark of the United States took bronze in 12.34 seconds, while Masai Russell finished fourth with 12.44 seconds.

At 28, Amusan was aiming to defend the world title she won in Oregon in 2022, becoming the first Nigerian and African to claim the 100m hurdles world crown.

Although she did not win gold this time, her silver medal adds to an impressive career that includes a world record of 12.12 seconds, multiple Diamond League victories, and a Commonwealth Games title.

After missing the finals at the last Olympic Games in Paris, Amusan has silenced critics and reaffirmed that she remains one of the fastest hurdlers in the world.
