Vice-President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for New York, United States, to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), confirmed the trip in a statement issued on Sunday.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the UNGA session will hold from Monday, September 22, to Sunday, September 28.

Nkwocha said Shettima will represent President Bola Tinubu by delivering Nigeria’s national statement during the high-level general debates and participating in several side events.

He added that the vice-president will also unveil Nigeria’s new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement at this year’s UN climate special event.
