Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to approve the creation of Ibadan State before the 2027 elections.
The new monarch made the call while addressing residents after receiving the Staff of Office from Governor Seyi Makinde. Speaking in Yoruba, he conveyed the wishes of the people, stressing that Ibadan State is their top priority.
Governor Makinde described Ladoja’s coronation as a proud moment for Ibadanland, noting that the smooth and dispute-free succession process reflects the city’s commitment to preserving its traditions.
He said the new Olubadan’s reign should bring peace, unity, and progress to Ibadanland and Oyo State.
The coronation was graced by prominent figures, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, and Donald Duke.
Before the grand ceremony at Mapo Hall, Chief Waheed Popoola, the Afobaje of Ibadanland, performed the traditional rites by placing Akoko leaves on Oba Ladoja’s head at the Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba.
Oba Ladoja’s procession was joined by political allies and dignitaries such as Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun, Teslim Folarin, Senator Yunus Akintunde, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, and Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala, along with other lawmakers.
