Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reinstated petrol sales in naira, barely a day after suspending the initiative.
In an email to clients on Saturday, the refinery said the decision came after the federal government’s intervention.
“Following the intervention of the Naira for Crude Technical Committee chairman, we are pleased to inform you of the resumption of PMS sales in naira commencing immediately,” the message read.
The refinery advised clients to resume placing orders in naira for both self-collection and free delivery to previously designated locations across the country.
The suspension, announced on Friday, was linked to the depletion of Dangote’s crude-for-naira allocation.
Nigeria introduced the crude-for-naira scheme on October 1, 2024, to boost local fuel supply, conserve foreign exchange, and stabilize pump prices.
However, on March 10, 2025, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited suspended the scheme until 2030 after forward-selling its crude oil output.
Dangote refinery followed with a temporary halt in naira-denominated fuel sales. On April 9, the federal government confirmed the continuation of the programme beyond its initial phase, which ended on March 31.
Finance minister Wale Edun later assured that further updates on the scheme would be provided.
