Popular broadcaster Oriyomi Hamzat has called out former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, accusing him of disrespecting the Yoruba people and Ibadan residents by referring to the newly crowned Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, as “my dear brother.”
Obi’s congratulatory message, shared shortly after the monarch’s coronation on Friday, September 26, triggered mixed reactions online.
Although Obi later explained the choice of words, Hamzat insisted during his show that it was inappropriate.
He and his guests argued that such a casual phrase should not have been used for a newly installed monarch, pointing out that even the president did not address the Olubadan in that manner.
