A Federal High Court in Abuja has barred Professor Pat Utomi and his associates from going ahead with their plan to form a shadow government or cabinet in Nigeria.
Justice James Omotosho delivered the ruling on Monday while deciding a suit filed by the Department of State Services (DSS).
The judge described the idea of a shadow government as unconstitutional and incompatible with Nigeria’s presidential system. He ruled that Utomi and his associates cannot use their right to freedom of association or government criticism as a cover for unlawful activities.
Justice Omotosho praised the DSS for bringing the case before the court and affirmed that the agency has the legal authority to act against activities that could threaten national security.
