Victor Osimhen has made history by becoming the first Nigerian player to score 10 goals in the UEFA Champions League.
The 26-year-old striker reached the milestone on Tuesday night after converting a 16th-minute penalty in Galatasaray’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool in Istanbul. The goal not only secured three crucial points for the Turkish champions but also etched Osimhen’s name in Nigerian football history.
Before this, Obafemi Martins held the record with nine Champions League goals, while other Nigerian greats like Nwankwo Kanu and Jay-Jay Okocha never managed to reach double digits in the competition.
Osimhen’s strike against Liverpool underlined his growing influence in Europe, with the forward now standing alone as Nigeria’s all-time top scorer in the tournament.
Having battled back from injury earlier in the season, his return has been timely for Galatasaray, with fans celebrating both the victory and his record-breaking feat.
The achievement cements Osimhen’s reputation as one of Africa’s most prolific forwards on the continental stage.
