Mustapha Sego, Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has denied threatening Lagos voters following a viral video of him addressing union members. He confirmed that the Department of State Services (DSS) invited him over the allegations but described the claims as unfounded.

In the video, Sego, speaking in Yoruba, warned that mistakes from the 2023 elections would not be repeated in 2027 and urged support for the All Progressives Congress (APC). “Anybody who makes any mistakes in 2027 will be dealt with. Let them know that the APC is the party you’ll vote for, anybody who refuses to do so will meet us,” he said.

Sego, however, insisted that his words were misinterpreted and were meant only for union members. “I have always been a man of peace. Everyone has the right to associate freely and choose their affiliations, and I fully respect that,” he said in a statement.

He also suggested that the allegations were part of a scheme by rival union members to destabilize his leadership in Lagos. “There is always opposition in every role. This is clearly an attempt to weaken me and the NURTW in Lagos State,” Sego added.
