Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has announced a protest march to Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja on October 20, calling for the release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.

Sowore shared the details on his X handle, @YeleSowore, saying the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow demonstration will start at 7 a.m.

Describing the march as “historic,” Sowore said it aims to pressure the federal government to comply with court orders for Kanu’s unconditional release.

Kanu has been detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021 following his extradition from Kenya and faces terrorism and treasonable felony charges. Despite multiple court rulings demanding his release, he remains in custody, sparking protests and criticism from rights groups.

Scheduled a year after the #EndSARS memorial, the march has stirred anticipation among Kanu’s supporters, who view it as a renewed push for justice. Security agencies have yet to comment on the planned protest.
