The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has begun a two-week nationwide warning strike after the 14-day ultimatum it issued to the Federal Government expired on Sunday.

ASUU President, Professor Chris Piwuna, announced the development during a press conference in Abuja, stating that the strike took immediate effect from midnight.

He explained that the action was to push the government to fulfill its unimplemented agreements and address the lingering crises affecting public universities across the country.

ASUU had given the ultimatum on September 28, 2025, as part of renewed efforts to resolve long-standing disputes with the government over funding, welfare, and infrastructure issues.

Piwuna noted that the decision followed failed negotiations, adding, “All branches of ASUU are hereby directed to withdraw their services with effect from 12:01 am on Monday, 13th October 2025. The warning strike shall be total and comprehensive as agreed at the last NEC meeting.”
