Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has refuted widespread claims that he has defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The speculation, which surfaced on social media, suggested that the governor had joined the ruling party — a claim his administration has now described as false and politically motivated.
In a statement issued by the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the government dismissed the report as “a desperate fabrication by political propagandists unsettled by Otti’s performance and growing influence beyond party lines.”
Kanu affirmed that Governor Otti remains “a proud and loyal member of the Labour Party,” adding that his focus is firmly on rebuilding Abia and delivering good governance, not political gamesmanship.
He recalled that just last week, during the Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians media session, the governor reiterated his commitment to service, declaring that his leadership is driven by impact, not political convenience.
“Governor Otti’s administration continues to uphold transparency, fiscal discipline, infrastructural renewal, economic growth, and youth empowerment — principles that define the Labour Party’s vision,” Kanu stated.
He urged residents to disregard what he called “cheap propaganda” by political detractors seeking to divert attention from the progress being made across the state.
