President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday announced a major shake-up in the Nigerian Armed Forces, appointing new Service Chiefs as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s security system and enhance military efficiency.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Chief Sunday Dare, the President approved the appointment of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede, as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.
The new Service Chiefs are:
- Chief of Defence Staff: Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede
- Chief of Army Staff: Major-General W. Shaibu
- Chief of Air Staff: Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke
- Chief of Naval Staff: Rear Admiral I. Abbas
- Chief of Defence Intelligence: Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye (retained position)
The changes, according to the presidency, are aimed at injecting fresh energy into the nation’s military leadership and improving the overall effectiveness of Nigeria’s security operations.
