Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has emerged as the new President of the Nigerian Boxing Federation (NBF).

Edun, a seasoned economist and long-time boxing supporter, was elected unopposed after securing all twelve (12) votes at the federation’s election held on Saturday at the Package B Indoor Sports Hall of the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

Following his victory, Edun pledged to introduce comprehensive reforms and structural adjustments aimed at reviving and promoting boxing across Nigeria.

The election for the Vice President position, however, was more competitive. Hon. Omonlei Imadu, representing the South-West zone, triumphed over his North-Central counterpart, Mighty Mike, by eight votes to four in a closely contested poll.

Imadu, known for his consistent efforts in developing grassroots boxing programs, described Edun’s emergence as a turning point for the sport.

“It’s a new dawn for boxing in Nigeria. The Honorable Minister’s passion for the sport is unmatched, and he has demonstrated that through numerous grassroots initiatives nationwide. Together with other board members, I’ll work hand-in-hand with Hon. Wale Edun to bring his vision for Nigerian boxing to life.”

He also commended the National Sports Commission, led by Chairman Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade, for ensuring transparency and credibility throughout the electoral process.
