Suspected fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have ambushed a Nigerian military convoy in northeastern Nigeria, killing several soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

According to HumAngle, the insurgents also abducted a serving Brigade Commander along with other military personnel. Armed and highly organised, the attackers reportedly carried out a coordinated strike that left multiple casualties and caused widespread alarm in the area.

If verified, this would be the first time an extremist group in Nigeria has captured a serving General directly from the frontline. The Nigerian Army has yet to release an official statement on the attack or provide information about the fate of the abducted officer.

The incident comes amid rising security concerns in Borno State. Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, recently condemned the escalating attacks, calling the situation “deeply worrisome” and unacceptable. He noted that four farmers were recently killed by Boko Haram while working in Kwam village, near the Dille community in Askira-Uba Local Government Area.
