A Nigerian Army soldier has been killed after being attacked by a mentally ill man in Imota, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The incident occurred on 16 November 2025, around 4:00 pm, during an internal security operation. The soldier had been deployed to help calm tensions in the community when the attacker struck him on the head with a heavy stick, causing fatal injuries.
Army colleagues at the scene quickly subdued the assailant and recovered the soldier’s weapon. The injured soldier was rushed to Ikorodu General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
He was laid to rest according to Islamic rites, with the Acting Commanding Officer and other officers of the 81 Division present.
The Nigerian Army extended condolences to the soldier’s family, friends, and loved ones, acknowledging his service and dedication. The 81 Division has launched an official investigation to determine the full circumstances of the attack.
Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 81 Division, also addressed a viral video of the incident, noting that preliminary information is being provided while the investigation continues.
