Curacao has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the smallest country ever to qualify for the FIFA World Cup, following a tense 0-0 draw with Jamaica in Kingston on Tuesday.

Despite facing heavy pressure from the Reggae Boyz throughout the second half, the island nation of just 156,000 people held firm to secure the vital point needed to book their place at the tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The draw capped an impressive campaign for the “Blue Wave,” who topped Group B with 12 points from six matches, edging Jamaica by a single point.

Curacao’s qualification surpasses the previous record held by Iceland, which reached the 2018 World Cup with a population of roughly 350,000.
