The Nasarawa State Police Command has clarified that no students of St. Peter’s Foundation Secondary School in Rukubi, Doma Local Government Area, were abducted on Friday.

Police Public Relations Officer Ramhan Nansel described the reports spreading on social media and some news platforms as “false” and misleading.

The panic reportedly began when students on their way to Physical and Health Education classes spotted armed hunters in the vicinity. Mistaking them for kidnappers, the students ran but were later safely escorted back to the school by teachers.

Following the initial alarm, Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro Mohammed deployed a combined team of police and military personnel to the area.

“Investigations revealed that the pupils had seen hunters carrying Dane guns and, out of fear, fled, thinking they were under threat. The area was thoroughly secured, and normalcy restored immediately,” the statement said.

The school proprietor confirmed that no abduction took place, calling the reports false. Security personnel continue to monitor the area to prevent any potential threats.

The police command urged the public to ignore the circulating rumors and advised media outlets to verify information before publication to avoid unnecessary panic.

“The report is mere rumor and should not be treated as factual news,” the statement concluded.
