Nollywood actor Odunlade Adekola has playfully responded to a fan who criticised the use of charms and incantations in Yoruba films.
The fan had praised the new epic War Lord (Olori Ogun) for highlighting the heroism of pre-colonial Yoruba war lords but expressed disapproval of the frequent supernatural elements. The fan wrote: “What I DISLIKE is the CONSTANT USE OF CHARM & INCANTATION … Can’t a WARLORD fight NEUTRALLY without being DIABOLICAL? YORUBA INDUSTRY should work on that.”
In reply, Odunlade joked: “We will use bible verses next time.”
The interaction quickly went viral, with fans defending the use of charms and incantations as an authentic reflection of Yoruba history and culture. Odunlade’s humorous comeback underscores his ability to engage with fans while preserving the cultural depth that defines Yoruba cinema.
