Social media critic VeryDarkman has admitted that he was responsible for making the call that resulted in the arrest of activist Harrison Gwamnishu, who is currently being held in Benin, Edo State.

In a Facebook video, VeryDarkman explained that he first heard about an incident involving Gwamnishu in Auchi and was deeply disappointed by what he learned. He claimed he had advised those involved not to make the matter public, but when a video surfaced online, he felt compelled to intervene.

VeryDarkman described Gwamnishu’s response video as an attempt to "gaslight" the public and manipulate opinion. He said the police had instructed witnesses not to record the incident, yet one person captured footage showing Gwamnishu returning money linked to the case.

Addressing suggestions that jealousy motivated his actions, VeryDarkman insisted his intervention was about upholding “the truth.” He expressed hope that Gwamnishu will publicly explain the incident once released, warning that he may reveal additional details if the activist fails to do so.

He said: “Harrison Gwamnishu is in police custody in Benin, Edo State. He was arrested yesterday night. I initiated the call that led to his arrest. I’m disappointed by everything, but I want him to come out and tell the public the truth about what happened in Auchi.

“When the incident happened, I was surprised, so I made calls, spoke to the police, and verified the story. When it was confirmed, I was saddened.

“Then I saw Harrison’s video explanation. It was gaslighting because I know the truth. He tried to counter the narrative, seek sympathy, and manipulate people emotionally. I was disappointed.

“He’s in custody now, and I hope he will tell the truth when he comes out. Regarding the money, whether he took it or not, there is video evidence showing him returning it.”
