Don Jazzy has revealed the huge investment behind Rema’s global hit “Calm Down,” giving fans a rare look at what it takes to turn an Afrobeats track into an international sensation.

During a recent podcast interview, the Mavin Records boss explained that promoting a song internationally requires far more than just producing it. He said, “A song like ‘I’m Down’ now, you will probably spend close to four or five million dollars to get it to where it is. Okay, as we conquer this place now, you spend the next money, you go to the next place. Wow, $4–5 million. Yeah, the lifetime cost, now you don’t know it. That’s a good question.”

When asked about the revenue generated by “Calm Down,” Don Jazzy responded simply, “A lot!” underscoring the song’s commercial success and widespread impact.

His comments shed light on the level of investment, strategy, and planning required to make a Nigerian hit resonate with audiences across the globe, highlighting the high stakes involved in breaking Afrobeats internationally.
