Hollywood director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife Michele were discovered dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, with authorities treating the case as a potential homicide.
Emergency services were called to the couple’s Brentwood residence, a wealthy neighborhood known for celebrity homes, in the afternoon. Both were pronounced dead at the scene; Rob was 78, and Michele was 68.
Reiner built a legendary career in Hollywood, directing classics such as The Princess Bride, This Is Spinal Tap, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, and A Few Good Men.
A family spokesperson said, "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time."
No arrests have been made, and police said no suspects are currently being sought. Robbery-homicide detectives have launched an investigation, and the Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed they received a call for medical assistance around 3:38 p.m. local time.
Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton said both bodies remained inside the home several hours after responders arrived. Police have not revealed details about injuries or potential weapons, and the Los Angeles coroner’s office will determine the official cause of death.
