Nollywood actress Doris Ogala has initiated legal action against Pastor Chris Okafor, demanding ₦1 billion in damages for allegedly breaking a promise to marry her. Ogala claims the pastor, who is now married to another woman, betrayed her trust and caused severe personal and professional harm.
According to the formal demand letter sent by her lawyers, the relationship began in 2017 when Ogala was going through marital difficulties. The pastor reportedly assured her of marriage, introduced her to his family, and included her in family events, creating a reasonable expectation of a future together.
Ogala’s legal team alleges she relied heavily on the promise, leaving her troubled marriage and entrusting ₦45 million to Okafor in a single financial transaction. They further claim that his engagement to another woman caused emotional distress, reputational damage, and cyberbullying, including the malicious circulation of private photographs.
While acknowledging that the law cannot force a marriage, the lawyers demand ₦1 billion in aggravated and general damages to compensate for the emotional, psychological, and reputational harm Ogala suffered. The letter stipulates that payment should be made within 21 days, or legal proceedings will be pursued.
The case has attracted significant public attention, with many following Ogala’s call for accountability and awaiting Pastor Okafor’s response.
