The Independent National Electoral Commission has brought together the rival factions of the Peoples Democratic Party in an effort to resolve the party’s prolonged leadership crisis.
The meeting, held at INEC’s national headquarters in Abuja, involves representatives of the Tanimu Turaki and Abdulrahman Mohammed factions and is aimed at addressing internal disputes threatening the party’s stability.
The Mohammed faction is reportedly supported by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, while the Turaki group claims backing from key party structures. INEC officials say the talks are intended to clarify the PDP’s leadership and prevent further confusion ahead of upcoming elections.
Tanimu Turaki attended with members of his National Working Committee, party secretariat officials, and former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu. Abdulrahman Mohammed was represented by members of the party’s national caretaker committee, including its secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu, and other senior faction leaders.
The closed-door discussions are expected to focus on leadership claims, documentation, and possible pathways to reconcile the party’s divisions. INEC is seeking clarity on which faction has legitimate authority to act for the PDP.
As of filing, the talks were ongoing, and no official statements had been released by INEC or either faction.
