The National Industrial Court of Nigeria in Abuja has ordered workers under the Joint Union Action Committee to halt their ongoing strike following an injunction filed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the FCT Administration.

The court action, filed against the Chairman of the Joint Union Action Committee, Rifkatu Iortyer, and its Secretary, Abdullahi Umar Saleh, under case number NICN/ABJ/17/2026, sought to prevent the defendants and their members from engaging in industrial action, picketing, or lockouts.

In his ruling on Tuesday, Justice E.D. Subilim acknowledged that the dispute qualified as a trade matter and met the necessary legal requirements but stressed that the right to strike is not unlimited.

He directed that any strike must be suspended once a matter is before the National Industrial Court, and ongoing industrial action should stop until the case is fully resolved.

“An order of interlocutory injunction is hereby granted, restraining the defendants and their representatives from further embarking on any industrial action against the claimants. This order will remain in effect pending the determination of the suit,” Justice Subilim stated.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has raised the price of petrol supplied to marketers from N699 per litre to N799 per litre, with MRS filling stations now retailing the fuel at N839 per litre.

In a statement released Monday evening, the refinery explained that the adjustment follows the end of the festive season. “With the festive period concluded, PMS prices have been modestly realigned to sustainable levels to support long-term market stability and affordability. Under the current alignment, the PMS gantry price is N799 per litre, while MRS retail outlets are selling at N839 per litre,” it said.

The refinery reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining stable pricing and a steady supply of petrol across the country. It noted that petrol prices were temporarily reduced during the festive season to ease financial pressure on households during high spending periods.

According to the statement, this is the second consecutive festive season in which Dangote Petroleum absorbed additional costs in the national interest, citing logistics support in 2024 and a price cut in 2025 as measures to keep fuel affordable and ensure market stability.

The refinery also expressed concern that many filling stations did not apply the temporary price reduction at the pumps, depriving Nigerians of the intended benefits.

A family member of filmmaker Femi Adebayo has addressed social media criticism surrounding the eviction of his estranged wife, Omotayo Sanusi, popularly known as Iyan Aladuke.

Mrs Taiwo Abdulmalik, who is related to Femi, explained that the eviction from a Lagos property was due to a bank foreclosure and not an act of abandonment. She said Femi had purchased the property with a bank loan, and when repayment problems arose, the bank began recovery proceedings. “She knew Femi bought those properties with a loan and that the bank was coming for recovery. Those properties belong to him alone, and he is still paying heavy principal with interest,” Abdulmalik stated.

Abdulmalik added that once the bank took over, Femi made sure Sanusi, her family members living with her, and her staff were relocated to a short-let apartment, covering all expenses. “He immediately arranged for their move and paid for everything,” she said. She also noted that Femi encouraged Sanusi to find another rental home and promised to pay, regardless of the cost.

She further revealed that in 2022, Femi bought a parcel of land near Sanusi’s business on Muritala Muhammed Way and registered it in her name as financial support, but was later surprised when she sold the land and spent the proceeds.

Responding to claims that Femi had neglected his family, Abdulmalik emphasized that he continues to support their son, including spending about $50,000 on a medical procedure in India last year. “He has never stopped taking care of his son. He loves his children dearly and is very involved in their lives,” she said.

Sanusi, however, has disputed parts of the family’s account on social media, alleging that men with firearms came to her business during the eviction and that her elderly mother was also forced out. She said she had avoided taking the matter online but felt compelled to respond to what she described as “false information” circulating about her.

A 40-year-old Nigerian man based in the United Kingdom, Adedapo Adegbola, has admitted to killing his former British girlfriend, Steph Irons, after stabbing her to death at her home in Nottingham.

Adegbola entered a guilty plea at the Nottingham Crown Court on Monday, confirming that he and Irons were once colleagues whose working relationship later developed into a romantic one before eventually ending.

The fatal incident occurred on October 21, 2025, when Adegbola visited Irons’ residence on Westdale Lane West in the Mapperley area and attacked her with a knife. Authorities said the suspect has refused to explain what triggered the assault.

Investigators revealed that after stabbing Irons, Adegbola made no effort to seek medical help or contact emergency services. Instead, he fled the scene, leaving behind bloodstained trainers that were later linked to him.

Detective Inspector Stuart Barson, who is leading the investigation, stated that Adegbola was focused solely on escaping and attempting to dispose of key evidence following the attack.

Neighbours were unable to determine exactly when the stabbing took place, but Irons’ body was discovered in the living room of the apartment at about 10 p.m. Paramedics pronounced her dead shortly after arriving.

Although Adegbola later presented himself at Oxclose Police Station, police said he declined to cooperate with investigators and offered no comment during questioning.

Detectives relied on forensic evidence, including blood traces on his footwear, CCTV footage, witness accounts and digital records, to build a strong case against him.

Confronted with the weight of the evidence in court, Adegbola pleaded guilty to murder. He is scheduled to be sentenced on February 5.

Police disclosed that Irons held bachelor’s and master’s degrees in clinical psychology and had been preparing to apply for a doctorate programme.

Detective Inspector Barson expressed sympathy to her family, noting that he hoped the guilty plea would provide some measure of closure as they mourn her tragic death.

Chief Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, has returned to Nigeria following the removal of his name from the country’s wanted list.

Igboho arrived from self-exile in Cotonou, Benin Republic, and was greeted at his Soka, Ibadan residence by supporters, Muslim clerics, and well-wishers. Prayers were offered for his safe return, as well as for President Bola Tinubu and the traditional rulers who helped facilitate his freedom.

Visibly emotional, Igboho recounted the challenges he faced under the late President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, when he was declared wanted, denied a Nigerian passport, and had his bank accounts frozen despite favorable court rulings. His return marks another homecoming since fleeing Nigeria on July 1, 2021, after a combined DSS and Nigerian Army raid on his Ibadan residence over alleged stockpiling of arms and ammunition.

He had briefly returned to Nigeria in 2024 for his late mother’s burial. On this occasion, he visited the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, where he was warmly received by supporters. Oba Ladoja prayed for his success and praised his resilience.

In a speech at the palace, Igboho expressed gratitude to God, the President, and traditional leaders for their support. He said, “I’m grateful to God Almighty for this day. I’m also grateful to our President. Baba Olubadan Ladoja was instrumental to my final freedom. Since the day I was in Cotonou, he has been checking on me as a son. Baba Adebanjo also helped me. Baba Ladoja coordinated with elders in Yoruba Land and spoke with the President to secure my clearance.”

He added, “He told me to pack my load and return home. I never thought I would come back. I’m very happy, which is why I have come to pay homage to Baba Ladoja. I’m sincerely grateful to President Bola Tinubu.”

Igboho also urged Yoruba people to unite, saying, “My advice to Yoruba people is for us to come together so we can take our region to greater heights. I’m confident that President Bola Tinubu is making efforts to improve security.”

American rapper Kanye West, who now goes by Ye, has issued a public apology for his previous antisemitic remarks, blaming his actions on an undiagnosed brain injury sustained more than two decades ago.

Ye published a full-page advertisement in the Monday, January 26 edition of The Wall Street Journal under the headline “To Those I’ve Hurt.” The ad, marked as paid for by Yeezy and signed by Ye, outlined his mental health struggles and detailed how his bipolar type-1 disorder contributed to his controversial behavior.

He explained that a car accident 25 years ago fractured his jaw and injured the right frontal lobe of his brain. The injury went largely unnoticed at the time, which he says eventually led to his bipolar disorder.

“Twenty-five years ago, I was in a car accident that broke my jaw and caused injury to the right frontal lobe of my brain,” the statement read. “The deeper injury, the one inside my skull, went unnoticed. That medical oversight caused serious damage to my mental health and led to my bipolar type-1 diagnosis.”

Ye described bipolar disorder as a “debilitating disease” that distorts perception, making sufferers believe they are seeing reality clearly while losing touch with it. He admitted that during manic episodes, he said and did things he now deeply regrets.

“In early 2025, I fell into a four-month-long manic episode of psychotic, paranoid, and impulsive behavior that destroyed my life,” he wrote. “Some of the people I love the most, I treated the worst. Looking back, I became detached from my true self.”

He credited his wife, Bianca Censori, for encouraging him to seek professional help after “hitting rock bottom” and said he has since regained stability through medication, therapy, exercise, and clean living.

Regarding his antisemitic remarks, Ye described them as “out-of-body experiences” linked to his mental health struggles. He admitted that he gravitated toward destructive symbols, including selling merchandise bearing the swastika, but stressed that he is not a Nazi or antisemite and expressed love for Jewish people.

He also apologized to the Black community, writing: “To the black community – which held me down through all of the highs and lows and darkest of times. The black community is, unquestionably, the foundation of who I am. I am so sorry to have let you down. I love us.”

Ye concluded by asking for patience as he continues to recover and focus on creating positive, meaningful work in music, fashion, and design.

His antisemitic remarks first drew attention in late 2022, including a controversial tweet threatening action against Jewish people.
