Former Ondo State governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Bamidele Akingboye, has died.
Akingboye, who contested in the November 16, 2024 gubernatorial election against Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and 12 others, passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, September 3, at his Victoria Garden City (VGC) residence in Lagos.
His spokesperson, Oyeniyi Iwakun, confirmed his death in a statement issued to journalists in Akure, describing Akingboye as a man of integrity, an accomplished businessman, philanthropist, and visionary leader.
“Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (OBA), the Social Democratic Party Governorship Candidate in the 2024 elections, passed away earlier today at his residence in VGC, Lagos. He was a fulfilled and purposeful leader, a community builder who touched many lives,” the statement read.
Akingboye is survived by his wives, children, grandchildren, and siblings. Burial arrangements will be announced later.
Until his death, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Benshore Maritime and Clog Oil Systems, as well as President of WeAfrica Group. He also held the traditional title of Olowomeye I of Ikaleland.
